Ice age

Only my second post of the year, I feel like such a slacker, still with all the great snow we have been having I have spent most of my free time out side taking photos. Even as I write it is snowing, but gray and wet so I’m not tempted to go out just yet.

After the last post that was a review of the year I thought I would do one about my plans for this year.

My main aim is to take the photography to the level where it will provide a full time income, a big step in these trying times, but I have all the relevant skills and have quite a large portfolio of images built up over the last 2 years. The first step along the way is my first solo exhibition which is in the planning stage and is set to open on the 20th of February, more on that once the details are confirmed.

The next aim is to get fitter than I am and hopefully lose some weight in the process; I even went to a Pilate’s class on Saturday and yes I was the only man there! Swimming is the other new activity I am trying to master; I’m up to 32 lengths so far and would like to double that to hit the mile mark.

Photo today was taken on Friday on the Roaches close to Leek, I had taken a day off work and spent most of that time walking in the hills and taking photos, it’s not often we get fresh snow and blue skies so it was an opportunity I could not miss.

Happy New Year - I hope you achieve all that you're setting out to do. Getting fit is well worth while, and if you can earn money doing only what you love, you never have to work again!

Make sure you give us plenty of notice of when your exhibition will be. I love the photo, so fresh and clear.

Climate change, I have to admit that I’m very skeptical about the existence of climate change and the whole global warming thing. My basis for this is that we (humans) have only been here for such a short time and for a large period of that were not really in a position to judge what was happening around us. An even smaller period of time is the length of time we have been able to accurately measure things like temperature or the size of the ice caps, so to be able to say that things are changing outside of the norm, when we really have no idea what the norm is, is like seeing a snow flake and predicting the start of an ice age. I wrote this as part of the second days post: “365 different photos, I’m daunted and intrigued at the same time. Daunted with the task of taking the images and writing words to tie it all together and intrigued at what will be here in a year’s time. Will anybody see this? Will it make any sense?” 70,849 words, 367 photos, 3014 comments, and 43358 visitors from 164 countries later and it’s all done, I’m 42 and have the answer to those questions. Yes somebody has seen it and no it really does not make much sense, but that really does not seem to matter that much. I wanted to mark the passing of a year in my life and have ended up with a fantastic record of a year in both words and pictures. Have you ever put something off, that you really should have done, I have, getting assessed for dyslexia. Nearly my whole life I have had problems spelling, and have done every thing to avoid getting tested, why, because I was scared that I would not have it and be told I was just thick or lazy. Well yesterday I got tested, and the results surprised me. First I was informed that my reading ability was good to high, next I was informed that I have an IQ of over 120 (140 and over Genius or near genius 120-140 Very superior intelligence 110-120 Superior intelligence 90-110 Normal or average intelligence 80-90 Dullness 70-80 Borderline deficiency Below 70 Definite feeble-mindedness 70-80 Borderline deficiency 50-69 Moron 20-49 Imbecile below 20 Idiot.) They have changed the lower classification for a more PC wording but this is the original.
