Blog of the week - Pictures, Poetry & Prose

Image
Blog of the week time yet again, and this one is not just a great blog idea in its own right but also a way of finding even more great blogs. Pictures, Poetry & Prose is a blog that post picture from a number of artist (me included) and then asks writer and poets to add words inspired by the images. For me the end result of seeing what my images provoke makes me look at the pictures in a different light. The other benefit of the site is that the images come from a wide range of sites that you can then visit. The image today comes from the holiday in Yorkshire; I will give a full report in my next post as long as nothing else happens in the mean time. ---------------- Now playing: U2 - Desire via FoxyTunes

Cyber killer

Image
I’m here!!!!! I think that the world of cyber space has got it in for me, no sooner had I got the mail confirming that the photo hosting was sorted I then got a mail informing me my web site would vanish in 20 days!!!! To start the tail from the beginning, my photos are hosted on Photobucket and have been for years, when the blog got named “Blog of note “ my usage went through the roof and I had to change from a free a/c to a pro a/c which I did last year. In July I got a mail from them informing me it was time to renew the a/c and so I resigned up using Trialplay. Trialplay is a scheme where you buy a thing from one company and get a free thing from another, in my case I signed up for a months DVD rental £9.99 and got a years pro a/c at Photobucket £35.00 for free, its a really great deal and work flawlessly last year. As I was going away I pre did all my posts, as I always do, and went on my holiday. I then get a message that the images are not showing, once I get home I find out th...

First's

Well here are a number of first. The first time I posted a picture of myself, the first time my bandwidth runs out and the first time I’m let down by my photo hosting site. It just so happens that they all occur while I’m on holiday and unable to do anything about them. Add to that list, the first time I post without a picture, just so I can let you know that I am working to resume normal service as quickly as possible.

Blog of the week - Vodkamom

Image
She makes me smile, that the whole nomination for Vodka mom and a better reason I can not think of, I’ve visited her blog a number of times and have to agree, she does have away of making a few words really hit the spot. With over a 1000 followers this on is not a big secret but still very deserving of a visit. The post below was inspired by her post on Thursday and I left it as a comment, one of my longest ever! Sitting with a friend and her mum the subject of teenage parties came up, her mum asked, without fear of recrimination as the event was 15 years in the past, how after she had been away for the weekend, someone had thrown up on the ceiling. She had not asked at the time as she really did not think she would like the answer, but felt that she could take it now. My friend explained that her and her 2 siblings were incapacitated through drink and a third party had been ill in the living room. One of the less drunk guest decided to hoover up the mess and mid way through the task ...

I'm a Photographer, not a Terrorist

Image
I’ve not been spending as much time as I would like reading other peoples blogs and when I finally do get to read them I find they are all on holiday! Still it stops me feeling too guilty and frees up some time to look at new sites. One site that I came across today has a particular interest for me as it covers photographer’s rights, specifically the area regarding what we are allowed to photograph and when. I have found that as I walk around my local town I am spoken to more often if I am carrying a camera, this has become more evident as I am shooting more local stuff for the Leek blog. So far I have yet to have any negative comments, but this could be down to the fact that I am very aware of what I’m shooting and try to keep to the back ground as much as possible. I do feel at times that I stand out like a sore thumb and expect that someone will one day react in a less that positive way and reading the information on I'm a Photographer, not a Terrorist , it looks like a lot of p...

Blog of the week - My Parents Joined Facebook

Image
Oh Crap. My Parents Joined Facebook . No not mine, at least I don’t think so, this is the blog of the week as recommended by Bran da flake . We have all had those parent moments when they come out with something daft or embarrassing, now you can have those moments in print for all to see, once they have joined facebook. Photo today is the follow on from the last post, this is the same pair but this time on top of a fell called Steeple, to take the shot I had to quickly run back to the top of the adjoining fell while they had a quick rest. ---------------- Now playing: Blur - She's So High via FoxyTunes

Scoat fell

Image
It’s sunny so I have spent a good part of the day at various doctors’ surgeries. First was my own doctor for yet another sick note, then it was over to Stoke on Trent to see a doctor employed by the company. Coupled with the regular visits to the osteopath I am get sick of being sick On the plus side I have cleaned and sorted all my camera kit and learned to use fill in flash, a technique that has escaped my grasp for many years, but which I may need in the coming few weeks. The photo for today comes from an on going collection of shots, based around our attempts to climb all the Wainwrights in the lake district, this has now been done but I am still missing photos of us at the top of some of them, although this is no bad thing as it means we will just have to go back and do them again. The first of these that I am going to run over the next few post was taken at the top of Scoat fell, and yes they are both dangling their feet over quite a long drop, but what a great spot to eat your l...

Flower power

Another short post as I’m still under the doctors orders, but being at home and not doing anything really does not give me much to talk about. Still it does give me time to play around with my camera and today’s picture comes from some shots I took a few weeks ago when I was photographing hoverflies. ---------------- Now playing: Soho - Hippy Chick via FoxyTunes

Blog of the week - Virtua Gallery

Image
Blog of the week time again, don’t the week’s just fly by! This is the first of 3 blogs nominated by readers of this site who have won a prize; hopefully I will be able to off more at a later date. This blog was nominated by Babooshka and is well worth a visit if you like photo of a very high standard, its call Virtua Gallery and is run by a guy called Klaus and I could do no better than to quote the nomination “Klaus is just the most gifted nature photographer. I truly run out of adjectives to describe his astonishing and exceptional work. Again it's a blog that gains little recognition unless it's a theme day. Everyone should view his blog and be prepared to me amazed at this unassuming guys work. He truly deserves it.” Having looked at the blog I can only say I have to agree. My photo today is of Scar fell pike, England’s highest peak taken from Scar fell. ---------------- Now playing: The White Stripes - The White Stripes - My Doorbell via FoxyTunes
