Branching out

Typical, you spend all morning writing posts in your head and then only 2 mins after logging on I have loads to write about.
Polergirl has posted a post explaining her name, well worth watching!
Isunia, has linked to one of my posts (feel free at any time) this is because she has seen a tree like the one I have been photographing over the past 10 months. This is a coincidence as I have taken a second picture of it this month as I was passing it before the sun came up and the sky looked great.
So this is not the post I’d planned but it’s a great example of blogging taking over.

You are so lucky your tree is still there.
For the past seven years I have been driving past the coolest tree, in the worst surroundings - construction. I kept promising myself I would stop and photograph the tree, or get up early and go or at dusk when the sun was just right.
When I got my digital camera, I had no more excuses, you know where this is going right?
They cut the tree down!

Climate change, I have to admit that I’m very skeptical about the existence of climate change and the whole global warming thing. My basis for this is that we (humans) have only been here for such a short time and for a large period of that were not really in a position to judge what was happening around us. An even smaller period of time is the length of time we have been able to accurately measure things like temperature or the size of the ice caps, so to be able to say that things are changing outside of the norm, when we really have no idea what the norm is, is like seeing a snow flake and predicting the start of an ice age. I wrote this as part of the second days post: “365 different photos, I’m daunted and intrigued at the same time. Daunted with the task of taking the images and writing words to tie it all together and intrigued at what will be here in a year’s time. Will anybody see this? Will it make any sense?” 70,849 words, 367 photos, 3014 comments, and 43358 visitors from 164 countries later and it’s all done, I’m 42 and have the answer to those questions. Yes somebody has seen it and no it really does not make much sense, but that really does not seem to matter that much. I wanted to mark the passing of a year in my life and have ended up with a fantastic record of a year in both words and pictures. More than that it has changed my life, I have gained a confidence I never had, I can write without fear, my photography skill has improve and I realise that you can do nearly anything if you work at it. You known how it is, you’ve loads to do and not much time, but with a little luck and a bit of careful planning and you can fit it all in and than someone makes you BLOG OF NOTE!!!!!! WOW, Arghhhhhhhhhh!. From around 25 readers to 3451 by the end of the day, and what a post to have on the blog, I nearly did not write it, it was very personal and maybe too private to share, but I known that there are others, like me, out there and thought that if it just helped one person it made the risk worth while, well its shared now.
