Its in the can

Do you think that in 200 years time people will be walking down the sides of motorways enjoying the peace and quite of the countryside? I’m sure that 200 years ago people (if they had the time) would have thought it highly unlikely that people would be doing that on the side of the newly opened canals. Completed in 1779 the Caldon canal was the super highway of its day, carrying Limestone from Caldon Low quarry to the main Trent and Mersey canal. Today it is a place of quite reflection, used only as recreational water way. Today the picture reflects the mix of old and new, a water can on the roof of a modern barge, painted in a manner that echoes back to the old days.

Oh canals. Know well from my native Brum. Even Legged through the longest one in the UK. No canals here, or motorways actually. There are hobbits, no that's a lie, just some very strange locals. Excellent image the juxtaposition of the old and new. There is a photo by Jacques-Henri Lartigue, of the newly developed car passing the older horse drawn carriage and that's what your narrative reminded me of.

Can you handle the traffic? Off to photograph a all girl rock Band.

This is my second trip to your blog, Ilike to take photo's also. Its just a hobbie for me. I do post a lot of them but 95% never get posted. But I see you have a good eye! Congrats on being a "blog of note"

Climate change, I have to admit that I’m very skeptical about the existence of climate change and the whole global warming thing. My basis for this is that we (humans) have only been here for such a short time and for a large period of that were not really in a position to judge what was happening around us. An even smaller period of time is the length of time we have been able to accurately measure things like temperature or the size of the ice caps, so to be able to say that things are changing outside of the norm, when we really have no idea what the norm is, is like seeing a snow flake and predicting the start of an ice age. I wrote this as part of the second days post: “365 different photos, I’m daunted and intrigued at the same time. Daunted with the task of taking the images and writing words to tie it all together and intrigued at what will be here in a year’s time. Will anybody see this? Will it make any sense?” 70,849 words, 367 photos, 3014 comments, and 43358 visitors from 164 countries later and it’s all done, I’m 42 and have the answer to those questions. Yes somebody has seen it and no it really does not make much sense, but that really does not seem to matter that much. I wanted to mark the passing of a year in my life and have ended up with a fantastic record of a year in both words and pictures. More than that it has changed my life, I have gained a confidence I never had, I can write without fear, my photography skill has improve and I realise that you can do nearly anything if you work at it. You known how it is, you’ve loads to do and not much time, but with a little luck and a bit of careful planning and you can fit it all in and than someone makes you BLOG OF NOTE!!!!!! WOW, Arghhhhhhhhhh!. From around 25 readers to 3451 by the end of the day, and what a post to have on the blog, I nearly did not write it, it was very personal and maybe too private to share, but I known that there are others, like me, out there and thought that if it just helped one person it made the risk worth while, well its shared now.
